     The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), formerly National Open School, (name changed in 2002) is the board of education under the Union Government of India. It was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India in 1989[1] to provide education to remote areas under the motive to increase literacy and aimed forward for flexible learning.Here children can study without coming to school. The NIOS is a national board that administers examinations for Secondary and Senior Secondary examinations of open schools similar to the CBSE and the CISCE to increase literacy and provide education to rural areas. It also offers vocational courses after the high school. Despite being established for distance education, NIOS provides a formal and regular secondary and Senior Secondary program equivalent to CBSE.It was started by the prolonged compultion by Dr.R.Ravi Varman,MBBS,Ms.ortho

  
      NIOS offer the following courses:

    Open Basic Education Programme, which includes following three levels courses
        OBE 'A' Level course—Equivalent to class III
        OBE 'B' Level course—Equivalent to class V
        OBE 'C' Level course—Equivalent to class VIII
    Secondary Course—Equivalent to class X
    Senior Secondary Course—Equivalent to class XII
    Vocational Education Courses
    Life enrichment programmes
    d.eld course This course is being conducted by National Institute of Open Schooling on the initiative of the Ministry of Human Resources Development(MHRD), Govt. of India, keeping into consideration the NCF 2005, rte 2009 and NCFTE 2010(source:NIOS). If you are already employed with any school, then only you fulfill the criteria of filling up the application form. That means, if you are not employed with any Government or Private institution, you cannot apply for this course. The whole purpose of the programme is to make the in-service untrained teachers skilled, competent and to make teaching and learning more effective. So, it will be better if you get employed with any Government or Private institute, if you want to get benefit from the programme known as D.EL.ED. Good thing about this course is that even if you are not a graduate, has not done B.Ed. course or two years’ elementary education course, you can still find your feet in teaching arena. Criteria for Diploma in Elementary Education
        You should be employed as a teacher with any Government or Private school
        UDAIS Code of the school you are employed with (you can visit the BEO or Block Education Office to get the code if you are not told by the school administration)
        50% Marks in 10+2.(Grace of 5% is available with the applicant belonging to the SC/ST/PH candidates) It is important to note here that DELED Certificate will be issued to only those candidates who have scored 50% or above marks in Senior Secondary.

 Examinations 

      The public examinations are held twice a year in April–May and October–November on dates fixed by the NIOS. However, one is also eligible to appear through the On Demand Examinations at Secondary Level and Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which candidates have taken admission in NIOS for subject wise learning.[5] Results of the public examinations are announced usually six weeks after the last date of examinations.
